COVID Policies

Mountain Edventures was created specifically to give youth an opportunity for safe recreation and backcountry learning during the COVID pandemic. Mountain Edventures and Alaska Powder Descents are taking precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community and to provide a safe experience for our students. Our protocols are based on the recommendations of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, the CDC and the public health mandates of Eaglecrest, the CBJ, and the State of Alaska. We are preparing as best we can to create a fun and safe learning environment, and please expect that we will react and pivot when faced with new information about the issue. Students and their families share in the responsibility of keeping our community safe and following our protocols and government mandates.

  • Our days will be spent outside, physically distanced, and in small groups of no more than 8 students per instructor.

    • Students are strongly encouraged to sign up in ‘pods’ of friends and neighbors. Mountain Edventures will do everything reasonable to promote student pods. We can also combine individuals to make a pod.

    • There will be minimum possible exchange of students between groups.

    • If it is necessary to meet indoors, appropriate distancing will be maintained, and masks will be worn at all times.

  • Students will be required to sign a declaration of health and exposure the week before the course. HERE.

    • Students must attest to being well, not having been exposed to anyone who is sick, and to be in compliance with all state mandates about travel outside of Alaska.

  • We will minimize our risk in the field to avoid putting unnecessary stress on our local healthcare system.

  • Students should arrive at the trailhead in their own vehicles or by carpooling with someone in their household or close bubble/pod.

  • Mountain Edventures, including its instructors and students, will avoid crowded areas.

  • Activities and routes will be chosen to minimize close contact and the sharing of equipment.

  • In an emergency, if speedy evacuation is required, speed is the priority over preventing possible virus transmission. The immediate safety of our participants is our priority.

  • Student registration and payments will be online.

  • Individuals who come into contact with or develop symptoms of COVID and have to miss one or more days will be offered make up days, or a 50% refund for those days at Mountain Edventures discretion. This does not cover individuals who cannot attend due to travel.

    • DO NOT COME if you have had contact with COVID. We will work with you to make up what you missed.

    • Mountain Edventures must be notified BEFORE the missed day(s) to receive a refund or a rescheduling.

Students must:

  • Have a mask with them at all times; masks will be required for certain times including outdoor meetings.

  • Have alcohol based hand sanitizer at all times.

  • Not engage in physical contact unless members of the same household.

  • Not share food or drinks with others outside of their household.

  • Follow all State of Alaska, City and Borough of Juneau, and Eaglecrest COVID policies. https://skieaglecrest.com/covid19/

Agreeing to enroll in our program indicates agreeing to abide by our mitigation policies. Despite all precautions it is still possible for one or more participants to contract the virus.
